Anubis is the Egyptian God of the dead and is portrayed as a jackal or as humanoid man with the head of a jackal. He was the god of the afterlife, lost souls and the helpless. He was sometimes pictured holding the scales upon which the human soul or heart was weighed against the feather or truth and was considered to be a symbol of eternal justice after death.
